of trayvon martin, artist, activist chuck dee joins to us talk about his new project "beyond trayvon." you're live in the "cnn newsroom." and good morning, thank you so much for being with me. i'm carol costello. we begin this morning with what's being called the deadliest hot air balloon accident in the world in at least 20 years. 14 tourists killed today when a balloon exploded in the southern egyptian city of luxor. it's the site of some of egypt's most famous ruins. these were shot just before the explosion. rez reza sayah joins us this morning. >> reporter: this hot air balloon dropped 1,000 feet, the empire state building is a little more than 1,200 feet so this was a lengthy drop, officials say at least 19 people were killed, this incident happening in the city of luxor in southern egypt, the site of some of the most famous ancient ruins. officials saying 21 people were on board, almost all of them with the exception of the pilot were tourists, among them hong kong nationals, japanese nationals, british, the french. the operator of this hot air balloon was sky cruise. obviously ther

of this story now about steroid use? is there really that much of an urge to win and to cheat? >> it is hard to answer that because i have never had the urge to cheat and win. i barely took my tylenol when i had a pain, and it is amazing to see athletes that do that. it is really a loser's mentality. i have to say that, because, for example, for lance, for him to be so cocky and deceiving of everybody, for so many years, and to only really admit because you got caught, i think it is really sad. i forgive him, though, just because that's what you should do. but it is really sad. a lot of us, we work hard, we lift weights, we take our vitamins, eat right, sacrifice passing on junk food when you really want some, you don't eat the doughnut. >> you've been to the white house a couple of times. you're part of the let's move campaign. have you ever played hoops with the president? >> i've been invited two occasions and missed it. sorry. sorry, mr. president. i hope to get a chance to block his shot soon. >> trash talking! >> and at least then we'll have a chance to talk about school choice. i look

used to shoot your wife. so the question is, what good does it make, do to make more people go through the background checks when loughner was able to pass a background check? >>guest: well, that is a good question. he was clearly mentally ill, the school new it. his parents knew it. he was expelled from the community college because of the mental illness. if his condition was entered into the system, into the criminal background check system, and he went to do that background check i would assume that he would have been rejected so, in the case of loughner, if arizona would have enteredded 121,000 records they had not entered into the system, if his record was one of those, he probably would have been rejected as just like since 19991.7 million criminals and mentally ill have been rejected when trying to buy a weapon. now, the point we need to make, there was a gun show loophole so in the case of rejection at the gun store he could have gone to a gun show or private seller and gotten a gun. this is, you know, a problem but we can solve it. >>chris: let me ask you about another part of
